The objective of 1st and 2d Grade French programs (our CP and CE1 classes)
The objective is to encourage the gradual acquisition of the skills necessary for a fluent reading comprehension of French writings.
Additionally, the curriculum encourages the acquisition of a strong vocabulary in French, and teachers introduce new concepts, topics, and grammatical rules every week.
Oral discussions and presentations in French are an integral part of the weekly schedule.

1 - Oral skills in French
The program aims to improve the command of of the French language through the practice of various exercises. Students improve their oral skills in French by listening to texts read by their teachers, and then by learning to summarize the essential parts of the texts and to ask related questions.
The practice of reciting in French according to an appropriate rhythm and intonation is also encouraged.
2 - Reading and writing in French
The program is organized to gradually lead students to read in a more fluent manner and faster way.
The program also aims to teach students to write short texts first and then to learn how to write more complex ones.
3 - Vocabulary in French
Activities aimed at understanding, memorizing and using new words are also offered throughout the years.
4 - French grammar
The study of grammar concerns first simple sentences.
Punctuation marks and their use are also identified and studied.
Additionally, students learn to identify sentences, verbs, nouns, articles, qualifying adjectives and personal pronouns.
They also learn to spot verbs and their subjects in a given sentence.
Furthermore, students learn to distinguish the present tense from the future and past tenses and learn to conjugate the most common verbs.
5 - Spelling in French
Students learn to write in French respecting the correspondence between letters and sounds and the rules relating to the value of letters, to copy without fault a short text, and to write without error common words.
In connection with their learning of basic grammar rules, students are trained to spell correctly conjugate forms, they learn the agreement rules in French regarding gender and number in the nominal group and they practice the proper use of punctuation and capitalization.
